Wednesday!

Wow – this week seems to be flying by.  It’s already half over, tonight is a new Lost episode, and somebody will be leaving American Idol.  Whew!

Josh and I took a trip over to Bainbridge Island Wa this past weekend.  We lucked out and had a very sunny day.  We took the car over on the ferry and visited new friends at their beautiful home.  It was such a nice day trip – I’d like to go back again soon and visit all the little shops there.

I was so preoccupied with the gorgeous weather and our new friends that I forgot to take any photos while we were there.  But I did get this one of Josh on the ferry.  Can you tell we were having a great day? : )

I want to send out a big thank you to Liz over at LavenderLizard for including my little orange needlebook in her latest blog post.  Thank you, Liz!  If you love great Etsy finds like I do – I hope you’ll take a gander at Liz’s fun collection.

This morning I did a big shop update…well, big for me anyway. : )

Cute and Smart. Art.

I’ve got a brand new Project Tote.

Cute and Smart. Art.

And a matching needlebook.

And something a little different…

Cute and Smart. Art.

The other day I made up this tasket prototype.  This one is quite a bit bigger than my usual taskets.  I used linen (reinforced with fusible fleece) and this new Japanese canvas I just got from Superbuzzy.  Over all I’m very happy with how this new design turned out.  I think there’ll be some larger taskets in the shop soon.

This one does have some slight puckering of the lining at the back, but all-in-all it’s sturdy, roomy and cute.

Since it’s a prototype, I’m offering it at the same price as the smaller version, even though it’s quite a bit bigger.

So if you like a good sale and need a cute place to store some fabric bundles, knitting supplies etc… I hope you’ll give this tasket a home!

Sold – and on it’s way to NV.

Have a great day, everybody!

Man Down!

Good morning – hope you all had a great weekend!

Josh and I were homebodies this weekend. He had a presentation to work on and also wasn’t feeling well. Unfortunately, after all that work, he is home, in bed, sick today with a full on cold. The cats and I will do our best to nurse him back to health… I’ll keep him well supplied with medicine and soup. The cats will just sit on him.

Our car was also in the shop this weekend, so I kept myself busy by working on some wip’s. Including finishing up a few sewing books.
The grey one is already in the shop.

In plushie news: My friend Zander gave me the name of his attorney, but did not include her phone number. So I went online, thinking I’d find it – but no luck. (I guess I’ve gotten to the point where I just assume that if I have a question, the internet will have the answer.) So today I’ll look through the phonebook, and if that doesn’t yield results, then I’ll be hitting Z up for more info.

A little Seattle lore: We had a very dreary and soggy weekend here. But that didn’t stop us from wandering up to our favorite little coffee shop, Bambino’s. They were celebrating their anniversary by serving up free pancakes (I haven’t had pancakes in years – and they had blueberry ones…. they were so good!)

The funny thing is, the shop has a sign on the front that says something about being open since 1928. But when Josh congratulated them on their 70+ years of being in business, he was told that no, they were celebrating their 10th year.
The sign is made up.

And that right there is one of the reasons that we love Seattle so much. People have a great sense of humor out here. Personality. Quirkiness. Call it what you will.
We love it!

It’s Like Santa’s Workshop Around Here…

Good morning!
Hope you all had a nice weekend : )

Josh and I were out and about on Saturday. One of our stops was at the art supply store, where I bought some acrylic paint. I decided that my little thrifted jewelry cabinet that I’ve re-purposed to hold little bits and bobs in my studio,
needed to have orange knobs on the doors.

A few dabs with the paint brush and ta-da! Just a bit of color. I like it!
I cut a square of polka dot paper to cover the mirror on the inside.
(And that’s a very curious Poe on the upper left.)

We got up early on Sunday to go for a jog and discovered that the days predicted rain had already started. But that wasn’t so bad, since Josh brought home work to do over the weekend and I had ornaments that I wanted to finish sewing. At least we didn’t feel like we were missing out on much, since the weather was dreary.

Here is what I got done:

I have two sets of these pretty polka dots.
(You can click on the photo to see them larger.)

One set (so far) of these sage green with gold snowflakes.

And one set (so far) of these birds on blue.

Each ornament is topped with a wool felt star and a shiny little yellow bead.
I’ll be selling them in sets of five.

Monday morning I’m going to take a set to the post office to get an idea of how much shipping will be, and then I’ll list them in my shop Monday afternoon.
(* If you are interested in reserving a set – just click on my profile and send me an email :)

Hi There!

Monday, July 16th, 2007
Hope you all had a great weekend.

It was super hot here – when we weren’t out-and-about,
Josh and I were camped out in the basement with a fan pointed at us.

Thank goodness my Nina is portable.
I set up a card table and did some ornament sewing.

Buying a walking foot for my sewing machine was money well spent!

I love this thing!!!

Hello Tuesday

Hope you all had a great weekend : )

Things were quiet and relaxing here.We were out-and-about and got together with our friend John, which was very nice.

I was able to cross at least one thing off of my to-do list this weekend.
I have had quite a few sewing books that I started awhile back.
I finished up all twelve of them and Josh took pictures for me.

I have four of these little flower sets (you can see the fourth one in the shop).

There are eight of these little coat books. I really like these – especially the red books (the coat is a dark rusty brown with a pink collar – I love how those two colors look together). I used a little fun fur on the collars of the blue book coats.

I made it over to the Bernina shop this weekend and bought myself a walking foot! Yay!
The employees are very nice at that shop and took the time to give me a little demo on how to attach the foot and use it.

I’m so excited to try it out that I went through my scrap collection and already started cutting fabric to make three mini quilts. There will be a gold/tan one, a blue one and a green. I’m going with a bird theme again for these quilts.
Hum… I seem to have a thing for little quilts with birds… : )

Have you seen this adorable elephant fabric over at Reprodepot?

Or how ’bout this fantastic coaster set from one of my favorite Etsy shops, PaperedTogether?

And here is a beautiful article about yarns over at The Purl Bee.

Have a great day – we’ll chat again soon!

A three day weekend for Josh and I to spend together : ) Yay!
And what a great guy I have. He went running with me this morning.

(Don’t make any assumptions here – we have only just started doing this. We run for 10 minutes. Five minutes out and then five back to the house. And if you reside in the Ballard/Phinney area I sincerely apologize for the wheezing and gasping you’ve had to endure as we lurch past your home in the wee hours...)

Then he walked over to the post office with me (and more on that in a minute!)
And then, we walked further to a new quilt shop that Josh told me he saw on the way home one night. My man spotted a quilt shop for me! I love this guy!

The shop was smallish – but very nice.
They had alot of fabrics that aren’t at Joann’s – so I’m very happy to have found them. And they are in walking distance of the house. (Oh dear.)

At the post office I had two packages waiting.
The first was this lovely Hanky Sachet that I ordered from Primrose Design.
I could smell it before I even opened the box.
It is quite large: about 6″ x 6″ and it smells divine.
I could really carry this around with me all day…..
(your can click on the photos to see them larger.)

And then my first purchase from Chet and Dot: this little Tissue Pouch. Adorable!

In other news…

I think I’ve finally found a source for good quality felt. And that would be A Child’s Dream Come True. I’ve known about them for some time, but I was under the (mistaken) impression that they only took fax/phone or mail orders. Wrong.
They are completely internet accessible, the quality of the felt is fabulous and they ship very quickly. If you are looking for good felt – I highly recommend them.
They have different kinds of felt, in various weights.
For what I make – I’ve chosen the Holland wool felt.

Epilogue II:

For those of you who read this post and wondered what would happen to a package sent to England for all of $2.00….. I am happy to say my buyer received her sewing book already! It all worked out very well. I am so pleased!
And I apologize, postal clerk guy, for doubting you.

We don’t have any major plans for the long weekend. Hopefully getting together with our friend John tonight. And I’d like to buy a walking foot for my sewing machine on Monday… and how convenient that Pacific Fabrics is almost next door to the Bernina shop… and having a 25% off sale on all their fabric?

Other than that – I have many projects to finish up. My goal is to have new things to list in the shop on Monday & Tuesday, including new sewing books, new taskets and checkbook covers.

Have a wonderful, safe long weekend.
Hope you have good weather and lots of fun where you are!

Best – Jenn : )

There’s A First Time….

Monday, May 14th, 2007

(For Everything.)

Good morning!

Hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend!

We had beautiful weather here through most of the weekend and Josh had Friday off from work so we had three days together. Which was especially nice because we spent all day Friday out-and-about….before I got sick on Saturday and was in bed almost all day Sunday : (

Blah! I was miserable and ended up sleeping almost the whole day. I had so many things I wanted to get done this weekend.

I did manage to finish a small sewing project from my Simple Sewing book.

And here is where I had a bunch of “first times”.

I bought this cute barkcloth from Reprodepot - I had wanted it for awhile and then it went on sale, so I bought one yard. I’ve purchased canvas and upholstery fabric before, but not specifically bark cloth – so I wasn’t sure what I would get until it arrived. It is very nice – it has a great texture and weight and I love the colors.

So I decided to try my first project from the book – a checkbook cover. This required using bias tape – another first for me. I found some good colors at Joanns and got to work.

Overall I’m happy with how it came out – it was a fun project to do, especially when trying out new materials. I like the little button that I used, but the cover is constructed so that there is an elastic loop sewn into the other side, and this elastic loops over the button and keeps the cover closed. I quickly learned that for the elastic to stay put it needs a larger, flatter button to hold onto. (I like the button as decoration so I cut off the elastic and I’m going to leave the little button there.)

My stitching on this first one is alittle off. I was starting to not feel well as I finished this up.

I’d like to make a couple more and put them in my shop. But before I do I want to modify the design a bit – I was thinking of adding a little sleeve that could hold a pen. It seems that when I want to write a check I have to hunt around for a pen – it would be handy to have one right there with the checkbook. I’m feeling a little better today – maybe this afternoon I can get back to sewing.

If you feel like doing a little shopping – they’ve got new products in over at Superbuzzy – new fabrics and books : )

And over at Purl Soho they’ve got lots of new things, including new Amy Butler fabric.
