What’s New?

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Josh and I have been super busy over here.

We’ve got lots of projects going on these days.

The renovation of our upstairs is moving along quickly.

Here are a couple recent photos:

Our new railing!  There used to be a wall there.

This loft space will now be my new studio area,

instead of a cramped, neglected guest bedroom.

And we have new tile in the bathroom.

Josh has been working on several freelance design projects.

My latest custom order was for a large sized needlebook.

I tried something new with the cover and scalloped the edges of the embroidery. My customer was very pleased and so am I.  I think I’ll be doing more decorative edges on my needlebooks from now on.

Wednesday!

Wow – this week seems to be flying by.  It’s already half over, tonight is a new Lost episode, and somebody will be leaving American Idol.  Whew!

Josh and I took a trip over to Bainbridge Island Wa this past weekend.  We lucked out and had a very sunny day.  We took the car over on the ferry and visited new friends at their beautiful home.  It was such a nice day trip – I’d like to go back again soon and visit all the little shops there.

I was so preoccupied with the gorgeous weather and our new friends that I forgot to take any photos while we were there.  But I did get this one of Josh on the ferry.  Can you tell we were having a great day? : )

I want to send out a big thank you to Liz over at LavenderLizard for including my little orange needlebook in her latest blog post.  Thank you, Liz!  If you love great Etsy finds like I do – I hope you’ll take a gander at Liz’s fun collection.

This morning I did a big shop update…well, big for me anyway. : )

Cute and Smart. Art.

I’ve got a brand new Project Tote.

Cute and Smart. Art.

And a matching needlebook.

And something a little different…

Cute and Smart. Art.

The other day I made up this tasket prototype.  This one is quite a bit bigger than my usual taskets.  I used linen (reinforced with fusible fleece) and this new Japanese canvas I just got from Superbuzzy.  Over all I’m very happy with how this new design turned out.  I think there’ll be some larger taskets in the shop soon.

This one does have some slight puckering of the lining at the back, but all-in-all it’s sturdy, roomy and cute.

Since it’s a prototype, I’m offering it at the same price as the smaller version, even though it’s quite a bit bigger.

So if you like a good sale and need a cute place to store some fabric bundles, knitting supplies etc… I hope you’ll give this tasket a home!

Sold – and on it’s way to NV.

Have a great day, everybody!

Jumping the Gun

Monday, July 28th, 2008

I have so enjoyed reading about all of your childhood companions!

I am so glad that I did that post – it’s been fun reading all of your stories.

Ginny has just done a blog post about her childhood friends

and her very first sewing project. So sweet!

_____________________________________________________

I’ve titled this post “Jumping the gun” because I’ve been working on two new taskets and I’m so eager to share them with you, that I’m blogging about them before I even have them photographed for the shop.

My photographer is super busy at work,

so it may be a day or two before I can get these listed.

I made them using two super cute Japanese canvas fabrics.

This one has robots!

And this one has sweet little birds.

7282.jpg

7284.jpg

I just can’t believe that each little bird has an orangey dot on it’s face -

and here I had this fuzzy orange dot ribbon – they go perfectly together!

And I’m loving this blue/orange/white color combo!

This is one of those projects that just called out “Make me!” and I had to do it.

: )

Hope you have a great Monday!

My re-cap/photo re-enactment of Lake Resort Nurse is a go!

Mid-week is the hands down choice for posting each new installment. So now I am finishing up making costumes for all the characters, then I’ll take some photos. Look for the first “webisode” of Lake Resort Nurse next Wednesday, January 16th.

************************************************************

Right now I’m working on a Valentine’s Day Swap
hosted by The Misadventures of Mama and Jack.
This is a great blog and if you haven’t visited there yet – I hope that you will.
Her latest post is about this lovely little wreath that she made – for all of $1.50!
If you have an interest in thrifting – this is a blog you will enjoy!

These are the materials I’ve gathered for my Valentines so far:
wool, felt, ink for stamping and this pretty paper I found at The Paper Zone.

I may string the Valentines I receive onto ribbon and use that as a decoration for the holiday.

Oh, and Katie is thinking about hosting a Martha’s Good Things Swap. I’m hoping to join in – if it ends in February. I think I’ve got enough going on in January already. If you’re interested in this swap, leave Katie a comment – I think she’s waiting to see how many folks are interested.

******************************************************************

In between taskets and needlebooks and Lake Resort Nurses,
I’ve been embroidering lots of wool flowers.

These will eventually be 25 needlebook/pincushion sets for my shop.

***********************************************************************

All 6 different taskets are now in my shop.
You can see all of them in detail right *here*.

I sure have been finding lots of good stuff on Etsy lately!
Over the holidays I think I doubled my list of favorite items.

My latest favorite Etsy item is this bar of Cool Citrus Basil Button soap from HelloCrafty.
Isn’t this fantastic?!?

And I love this part of the description:

“Great gift for your friends who sew, quilt, knit or just like to bathe!!!”

I love it and I just had to share it with you.

Hope you all have a great day!

Thanks for all of your wonderful comments on my last post.

Ah… The Weekend

Saturday, January 5th, 2008
It’s Friday night and I have been sewing in my studio until 11 pm.

Now I’m relaxing with a cosmo. Josh is next to me playing x-box.

Before I started my sewing marathon this afternoon
(finishing up the last of 36 taskets),
I tried this recipe for a peppermint mocha coffee,
which Katie shared on her blog awhile ago and I’ve been meaning to try.

I didn’t have whipped cream for mine – so I threw in a couple marshmallows.
It was quite nice.

Today I was finally able to make the blog rounds and leave some comments.
That was fun!
I’ve been lurking so much over the holidays, it was nice to say “Hi!” again.

***************************************************************

Tomorrow morning I’m going to list two taskets. Both will be the pink toile:

Sadly, one of my pink taskets snagged on the sewing machine while I was finishing it up and there is a “ding” in the satin ribbon. It was difficult to get a photo of the snag, here is the best I could do:

Josh looked at the snag and didn’t think it was all that noticeable, but after a few minutes we both agreed that if we were purchasing it, we would notice. So, because this one isn’t “perfect”, I’m going to offer it at a reduced price. It is still very pretty and will do just as good a job as any of my other taskets – so I’m hoping that someone out there will adopt this little guy : )

Hope you all have a fun weekend!

(Oh, and thanks to everyone who left a comment on my last post – you guys rock!)

Cheers -

Just So You Know…

Aliens Vs. Predator 2 was the best Will Smith movie I’ve seen in a long time!!!

What’s that, you say?

Will Smith isn’t in AVP2?

Yeah.

That confused me too for the first few minutes of the movie.

Here, let me explain:

I’m not sure exactly how or why Josh, myself and our friend John
became complete nincompoops on Christmas day.

We have been talking about going out to see AVP2
ever since we first heard it was being made.
And a Christmas opening day?
That sounds like the best Christmas present ever!

So, off we went.
We parked downtown and took an elevator and half a dozen up escalators up to the theater. Got in line and quickly noticed that AVP2 wasn’t listed as one of the movies being shown. Hm. Must have mistakenly gone to the wrong theater.

No worries.
Luckily there are two theaters very close to each other in downtown Seattle.
So, we took have a dozen down escalators,
walked a few blocks and stood in line at the second theater.
AVP2 is showing in theater #3.
We got our tickets.
We are early, the previews haven’t even started.
Anticipation is rising!

At least six previews and several car commercials later…

….the movie begins!
Wow. Check it out, it’s looking like AVP2 has a pretty good budget! And there is Will Smith driving down a deserted New York city street.

Hey, wait a minute! : /

Yes, somehow we managed to go to theater #2 instead of theater #3.

As it turned out, the three of us wanted to see “I Am Legend” anyway, so we just shrugged our shoulders and settled in. It was very good. Will Smith is fantastic, and this movie had plenty of thrills and chills. It was very intense!

But there must have been something in the air that day because our befuddlement continued as we took the wrong elevator to get to the parking garage and ended up heading upwards instead of downwards.

And I won’t bore you with how long it took us to find our way out of the parking garage, once we got to it.

I have many things to be thankful for in 2007.
Especially that we were able to find our way home on Christmas day!!!

: D

Now I’m back in my studio with lots of projects in the works.

Here’s a little preview of the new taskets I’m working on.
The fabric is really pretty, and I can’t wait to finish them.

Cheers!

New Goodies

Thursday, May 10th, 2007
Just a quick post today before I step out to run errands.

I added two new taskets to my shop this morning.

This cheerful purple polka dot.

And this shabby chic little number – very dainty and girly : )

This afternoon I’ll be working in my studio… and glancing out my window every so often to see the beautiful weather we’re having.

Also I’ll be sending some love over to Ginny and Jody – hope you guys feel better soon!

(Boy, LOST was fantastic last night!!! We got to see little Ben! What a great episode : )

Cheers!

Good morning! Hope you all had a great weekend.

I was in my studio all weekend sewing sewing sewing.

I’m happy to say that all the taskets that I started are now finished. I ended up with 11 – but I could probably make 1 or 2 more – after I take a break from them.

I want to say a big “Thank you!” to Lisa for her wonderful words of advice about craft fair goodies. She suggested that I make some smaller items to have on hand for “impulse buys”. Business card wallets were mentioned and it just so happens that about six months ago I had an Etsy customer request that I make her a business card wallet. So on Sunday I went through my sketch book and found my notes for that project, gathered together wool and felt and my precious special trims from Superbuzzy and got to work.

Here is what I have done so far (you can click on the photo to zoom). Four little doggie wallets and the rest say “Here You Are” with a little bee decoration. I still have to sew on the pockets – that will be one of today’s tasks. I’m quite pleased with them – Josh likes the doggie ones : )

There must have been something in the air this weekend – a hint of spring, maybe? – because I sold my last two Butterfly pincushion/sewing book sets. I’ll wrap these up and get them in the mail later this morning.

And one more thing I am super excited about: I have joined in on the Spring Fling Swap that I found over at Sweet Goodness Swaps! As I’ve been exploring lots of wonderful craft blogs I keep reading about all these swaps that people are doing…. and seeing all of the gorgeous goodies people are getting in their mailboxes… and I’m thinking “gosh that sounds like fun – how can I get in on the action!?” Somehow one day I found myself at Sweet Goodness Swaps and to my delight I hadn’t missed the deadline for the Spring Fling Swap : )

The color theme is pink and green (yummy). And I have a wonderful swap partner – Rebecca! She has a great blog called Thrifty Goodness – very fun and lots of photos. And from what she’s been blogging about she may soon be a fellow Etsyian – whoo hoo! I’ve almost finished making my first swap item, Rebecca – can’t wait for you to see it : )

Well – I’m off to the post office and then back to my studio. Nina is really getting a workout lately – I’m sure she’ll be happy to have Saturday off!

WIP Friday

Friday, March 30th, 2007

I looked over at my studio work table this morning and there were all of the fabric linings for my taskets. All the colors made me smile – so I thought I’d get a picture and share.

Progress on my craft fair goodies has been steady, but slower than I’d hoped – as I’ve managed to catch a pretty bad cold and I’ve been achy and tired.

Nevertheless, I’ve also gathered materials to make a batch of new sewing books to take to the fair.

I found these cute buttons at Pacific Fabrics – I think I might also use some rick-rack to decorate these. They will be very cheerful and spring-y : )

I’ve been so busy with craft fair preparations, that I haven’t been listing as much in my Etsy shop. But I did finish this polka dot sewing book and added it on Wednesday.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my last post – I just love to hear what you’ve got to say!

Happy Friday to you!

P.S. For those of you who’ve had a rough week – take a peek at THIS and be sure to watch it all the way through : )
