Oh, Reba!

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Sorry, folks.
Reba had a few too many $0.10 cokes recently
and didn’t make it to her photo shoot last night.
Never fear though, the next installment of Lake Resort Nurse will be here tomorrow!

Thanks to everyone for your nice comments on my last post.
I am so happy to have those two bags in my shop.
They were very fun to make and alot of love went into them.
I wish you could feel how soft and yet sturdy they are.

Yesterday I almost completely ignored my To-Do list and instead,
I spent most of the day making new business card wallets.

Then I sat down to embroider some hedgehogs and found that I was
almost completely out of brown embroidery floss. So this morning,
with fist full of 40% off coupons, I raided Joanns and stocked up.

My shop recently received its 1000th heart from a kind fellow Etsyian!
Yay! Thank you to everyone who has “hearted” my store : )

And I will soon be reaching my 200th blog post.
So, I guess I’ll have to go through my fabric stash and get ready for a give away!
Be on the lookout for that - I think another 5 posts should do it.

Hope you’re all having a terrific day!

Don’t forget the season finale of Project Runway is on tonight!!!

Cheers!

Tiny Stitches

The first of my little quilts is finished and in my shop!

I’m very proud of it. Last night I did the hand embroidering around the border -
while sitting in my new chair in my studio, with my feet up : ) Heaven!

Today I’ll work on the blue one.
And I’ll also be returning some much overdue emails and catching up on my favorite blogs.

Have a great day - I can’t believe it’s Friday already!

Snow or Sun

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Yesterday I looked out the window of my studio and it was snowing. This morning - clear and sunny. In Seattle you just never know what the weather will bring….

Coming soon - three new taskets in bolder colors:

I worked yesterday on these little 5″ x 5″ embroidered pieces. I’m going to do three versions (three color combinations). I got alittle of the embroidery started on the blue and green one. And I went to our local frame shop and bought three frames for them… I’m so excited to see them in the frames - that will motivate me to get these done quickly!

Now I’m off to the post office and then Joann’s to get some more embroidery floss.

"Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

you’re my only hope.”

Josh and I ran lots of errands on Saturday, tackled household chores and paid the bills.

So we didn’t feel too guilty spending most of Sunday watching not 1, not 2 but 3 Star Wars movies consecutively!

But on to more important matters, such as: what does one do when one is faced with approximately 7-8 hours of uninterrupted movie watching time???

Well - you get any and all hand sewing you can find and settle down! : )

Last year around Christmas I made 8 sets of holiday ornaments. They were a great way to use those little bits of wool that are too small to make into a sewing book, but not so small that I could throw them away. They were all hand embroidered so I could just keep my sewing basket near the television and work on them whenever we watched tv. I enjoyed making them so much that I thought - why don’t I just start them early this year? So I worked on these for a while during the movies.

I also did some sketching for a little 5″ x 5″ quilted piece. This is inspired by my grandma - because she loves birds. I’m trying something new - I’m not going to use batting for this, so technically I’m not sure if it can be called a quilt.

Instead, I’ve sewn the fabric to a square of white felt and I’m going to use applique, embroidery and maybe some beading for embellishment. My goal is that the finished piece will be thin enough to fit into a standard, pre-made picture frame.
(The little blue things in this photo are the little wool birds - I just scattered them around for this photo.)

Yesterday I worked on getting the basic shapes sewn (the blue piece above is further along than this brown one). Today I’d like to get working on some of the embroidery.

Happy crafting - sewing - quilting - beading and embroidery to you all!

“May the force be with you.”

Little Birds

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Hello All!

Not too much to report this Monday. The biggest news I have is that I walked over to our local book store today and pre-ordered the next Harry Potter book….I’m a big fan and I’m hoping that this one will be great (the last one was a bit of a tough read for me… *sniff*).

For those of you who’ve read previous posts here - you know how much I love the Japanese craft magazine Cotton Time. I don’t read Japanese but the photos are enough for me - I can sit and look through that magazine for ages!

I’ve decided to take a little break from making my sewing books and pincushions, and work on some small projects inspired by Cotton Time (and also work on my “plushie in a bag” project, too).

Last night I did some sketches for an idea I have - basically what I want to make is a piece of quilted fabric that will have small pockets on it to hold little things. And it will have a loop of ribbon so that it can be hung from a push pin or a nail.

I was thinking that the pockets will be fabric and have a little embroidered felt decoration. So, last night I started embroidering these little birds onto a light brown wool.

I’ve got to tinker around with the pocket sizes - I realized this morning that in my original sketches the pocket sizes are tiny. I’d like them to be small - but still functional.

I just thought it would be a cute accessory for my studio - and if I like how it comes out - maybe I’ll make a couple more to offer in my Etsy shop.

Now I’m off to the sewing machine!

Cheers!

Soon To Be On Etsy…

Friday, December 29th, 2006

Hello! Just thought I’d take a couple quick photos of a project that I’ll be finishing soon and then listing in my Etsy shop.

This will be a little sewing set that includes a
pincushion and a sewing book (also called a “pin book” or “needle book”).

The sewing book will be similar to my larger ones, but scaled down to a smaller size. I thought it would be fun to offer a small sized set for folks who like little things (like I do!) or want a travel sized sewing set.

I spent part of last night embroidering the little shirt/jacket that will decorate the front of the sewing book.

This fabric is vintage and I just love it.

I will only be making two of this particular set, but I have a few other themes in the works, including: hedgehogs, Scotty dogs, dragonflies, butterflies, bumblebees and kittens.

Can’t wait to get them in the shop - new items for the coming New Year!

And Happy New Year to you!
