The Big 2-0-0!

Welcome to my 200th blog post!

Wow, they sure have gone by quickly!

200 posts ago I hesitated starting a blog because I didn’t think I’d have enough to gab about.
I don’t have a good history with “journaling”. I write in them for a week and then completely neglect them. What would I ever have to write about on a blog?

Well, the answer to that is any wacky thing that I choose - and it sure has been fun!

At about this time last year I was getting ready for my first craft fair.

I’ve written about a really fun road trip that Josh and I took in June.

And I recently finished a weekly book review, which was a total blast : )

Thanks to all who have stopped by and read whatever wacky topic
I’ve been chatting about each week.
It’s been a joy to read your comments and hear your ideas : )

In true blog style I’m doing a give away to celebrate my 200th post.
I’ve gathered some fun goodies to share.

(Dylan from 90210? It can’t get any hotter than that people!)

I didn’t photograph any fabric but never fear,
I’m sure a bit of that will be tossed in as well ; )

The kittens are recuperating well.
In fact, last night I didn’t get to sleep until about 1:00 am
because Poe kept finding little stuffed mice around the house,
carrying them to the bedroom and making alot of noise playing with them.
Each time I (sadly) took the mouse away and put it well out of reach,
then she’d find another and start all over again.
This morning there was a pile of 4 or 5 mice on top of the dresser.
She must be feeling better : )

For the last few days I’ve been working here and there on various sewing projects.

Yesterday I worked on my little squirrel quilts - what do you think?

(Little squirrel.)

(Little acorn.)

I still have a bit more to do on them, but they should be finished soon.

Here are some of my new favorite Etsy finds:

This gorgeous bag made by Sarahjanedesigns.

“Mouses Tea Party”, an original watercolor piece by Margiemoore.

And this sweet little wooden house made by Weewood.

Be sure to leave me a comment for a chance to win my give-away!

I’ll be checking back on Saturday to randomly choose a winner : )

Have a wonderful day!

The Real Deal

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Good morning!

This is what I spent almost all day Sunday working on:
These are new sewing books that I decorated with strips of ribbon. It’s been a little while since
I’ve listed a new item in my Etsy shop - a few of these I made two of, so I should be able to post these throughout the week and in the meantime, work on the Scottie dog and dragonfly pincushion/sewing book sets. (And then start my plushie and bag project!)

So - I decided to title this post “The Real Deal” based on a thread that I read last night in the Etsy forums. Someone started a discussion about how they felt that alot of crafting blogs have become (I’m not quoting here - this is me paraphrasing) too perfect. Something about how reading some of the popular craft blogs would lead one to believe that the author is effortlessly rearing children, stitching quilts, potting plants, holding tea parties, etc., all at the same time in some sort of ideal perfect world of “nice & sweet”.

I can see how that message could come across. But from a (admittedly newbie) blogger’s standpoint, I can say that I always try to put my best foot forward. Especially since this blog (and other peoples) is in part a way of promoting products and artwork. And since life can throw some pretty crazy and unpleasant things at us - it has been really nice to have a little spot in the world where I can control the “happy meter”. This blog can be positive, constructive, nice and even cute, if I want it to be. And that’s the way it’s going to be.

But, at the same time, I am not rearing children while hosting tea parties in my immaculate garden. I am a real person.

Infact - here is part of what happens when you spend an entire day in your pretty studio creating sweet sewing books.

So for the record, I would LOVE to be one of those people who “does it all” and makes it look easy. But I don’t believe that there are many people who can really do that. And blogging is alot like reality television - you don’t see what has been left on the cutting room floor. Or in my case the litter box, kitchen sink, laundry hamper, etc!

Doing alot of things well is something to strive for. But I’m no superwoman.

And that’s about as preachy as this blog is going to get.

I’m off to wash some dishes.
