I recently discovered a new use for taskets =

holding baby accessories!

Baby5

Until now I’d never thought of how a soft, portable basket could come in handy in a nursery.  But they sure do. I’ve been keeping this one right in the co-sleeper.  It stands on its own, but it’s soft, so no worries if baby bumps it.

I think I’ll be making a line of baby tasket sets in the future.

I’ve already gathered these sweet fabrics from Superbuzzy:

Baby1

Bright and colorful elephants, owls and deer.

Baby2

Cute airplanes, balloons and forest friends.

Baby3

LOVE the colors of this one!

Baby4This one is subtle, with sweet forest animals.

Now I’m off to find some dotty cottons and rick-rack to match!

Summer Fun Swap

Monday, July 23rd, 2007
Good Morning, All!

I am still in the midst of Harry Potter over here.
But in the meantime, I can show you photos of the goodies that I sent to my swap partner for the Yellow and Orange Summer Fun Swap hosted by the wonderful gals over at Sweet Goodness Swaps:

This basket was a great thrifted find!
It was originally a nursery basket that had a green gingham lining.
Using my trusty seam ripper, I took apart the lining and used the pieces as a pattern to create this new lining from yellow fabrics that I had in my stash.
I added rick rack to decorate.
I especially like the pockets : )

Here is the basket filled with goodies.

This little saucer was another thrifted find.
The flower pattern was mostly yellows and golds.
It fit well with the summer color theme.
The background of this photo is a sweet orange fabric with tiny white polka dots.
I included one yard of this (new) fabric and one yard of a (new) light yellow flower patterned fabric.

This little book was another fabulous and unexpected thrift store find.
(I did really well in the thrift store for this swap!)
It is a reproduction of (if I’m recalling correctly) a 1950’s children’s book.
I believe this copy is from the late 1970’s.

Here is one of the adorable illustrations.
(You can click on all of these photos to zoom.)

I also included a set of recipe cards that I made.
These are some of my favorite tried-and-true good eats!

Also included were three packages of rick-rack,
and a package of orange flavored cookies.

I had so much fun putting this basket together,
and hunting around for thrifted goodies!

Thanks so much to the Sweet Goodness Gals -
Rebecca, Lucy and Leigh Ann
for organizing this and encouraging us all to do some thrifting and make new friends! : )

Talk to you again real soon!

More Posty Goodness!

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Yesterday I received two packages in the mail. I wrote about one yesterday, and today I’ll show you what my wonderful friend Christina sent to me:

A sweet hand written card : )

A pretty bookmark (and just in time, too – with my
long list of books to read!)

Birdy Post-It notes! Aren’t these cute?

Pop Rocks!

In a moment of unbridled childishness I tore off a corner of one of these and emptied about half the package into my mouth.
The sound of the pop rocks exploding in my head was deafening!!!

Seriously, I turned my head and both of our cats were standing in the room staring at me – and they had that same freaked out look on their faces like on the 4th of July when the fireworks are going off!

And finally… one of the prettiest, sweetest things EVER.

This is a ring basket that Christina made using teeny tiny beads and delicate, super thin wire. (You can click on these photos to zoom in.)

It’s pale pink and brown – I just love that color combination.
And the best thing of all is that it was hand made by Christina.
Thank you so much!

It is very special to me – I love it : )

Christina is a fellow blogger and you can see more of her gorgeous bead work at her blog: This Girl Beads. Check it out!

Little Baskets

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

In my last post I was wondering if I should make a few more fabric “baskets” to offer in my Etsy shop. Thanks for the great, encouraging comments!

I’ve been looking through my fabric stash and these are the color combinations I’ve chosen (I was busy sewing and glanced over at my window and saw some sunshine and ran for my camera. Glad I did – the light disappeared about 10 minutes later!) :

Most of these patterned fabrics I have only a half or quarter yard of – so I’ll only be able to make a few baskets out of them – which makes this a great project because the sewing time is fairly quick and it is a great use of these smaller pieces of fabric. Some of these I’ve had for awhile and I just love them. I’ve used them in other projects and watched as the original piece of fabric has gotten smaller and smaller. I’ll be sad to see them go – but happy that I’ve turned them into something so useful!

I’ve changed the original design to include pockets on the outside of the basket. I’d like to make some shorter, wider ones, too. I’ll post them as I get them done.

In the meantime I am also working on a special order for a great Etsy customer – so between these two projects (and LOST on Wed. night) that ought to keep me out of trouble for a little while! : )

What To Do…

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

So… Say you bought a canvas curtain from Ikea to hang infront of your washer and dryer so that when company comes over they aren’t looking at your laundry space. And say that canvas was about two feet too long. You would cut down the curtain and hem it…. and save the canvas. But what to do with it?

Well – last night I had an “a-ha” moment and came up with a quick project to put to use that perfectly good material.

I was in my studio and happened to glance over at my Cotton Time calendar (I know, anyone who has read more than a couple posts on this blog is like “shut up about the Cotton Time already!”) But I can’t help it. I practically did a happy dance when I was reading the latest issue and discovered that it came with a 2007 calendar and each month has instructions for a different craft project – yippee!!!!!

So anyway – inspired by February’s project I hunted around for that canvas and made up this little… what to call it… ah, “little basket” ( ? ). It’s about 4 1/2 inches tall.

Now, if you look closely you might notice that there are some problems with it. I posted before that mistakes happen and I am not too proud to admit to making them. A couple goofs were from never having made one of these before… and a couple others happened because I was watching Futurama while I was sewing this.

I’m going to use it anyway in my studio to hold little doo-dads. I have quite a bit of the canvas left still – I was thinking of maybe making a couple more with different dimensions and colors, maybe adding some pockets on the outside and posting them in my Etsy shop. Do you think anyone would want one?

Have a great weekend -

Jenn : )
