….Done!

I finished my pennant banner for our friends daughter Robyn’s, 1st birthday.

Y was my favorite letter to make – the flannel is so soft.

We recently started a set nap schedule here and I am loving it!

(Wish I was the one taking the naps – haha!)

While the baby slumbers I’ve been able to catch up on a few projects, take some custom order requests and start some brand new projects, too!

I’ll have more to show you soon!

Fall Baby

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Josh bought me this beautiful handmade doll and it just arrived today.

(I’m a big fan of Mimi’s dolls – I have this one, too!)

It reminds me of Madeline, all swaddled for a nap.

Thank you, Josh!

I’m working on some new additions for the shop.

I hope to share those with you soon!

Trick or Treat!

Friday, October 30th, 2009

The Trick:

_MG_9027

This shady criminal has recently been spotted in the Seattle area!

Last seen making off with copious amounts of milk.

She’ll do anything to get her next fix, including wearing disguises!

Crime fighters have dubbed her:

The Lactation Larcenist, The Booby Bandit, Milky The Kid.

But those names only hint at the magnitude of her crimes!

Police are helpless to track her down. They need your help!!

NAME THIS CRIMINAL!

The Treat:

Re-Ment

The winner will be announced this coming Wednesday morning.

The citizen with the winning name will receive this brand new, unopened box of Japanese Re-Ment.

(This box contains a surprise miniature assortment of realistic looking Japanese donuts!)

Help us keep Seattle safe!

WIP Friday

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Here is another wip that I have on the list:

getting this little bunny framed.

bunny1

I bought this little guy from Brightcolorart on Etsy.

Brightcolorart has sold more than one of these brooches, but each is an original illustration, slightly different and one-of-a-kind.

This whimsical little bunny will go very well with some of my other recent Etsy bunny purchases, like this felted piece, from TheMoonGoat:

Booties

No idea if it will be a boy or girl.

It’s going to be a surprise!

The best surprise ever.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Oh Baby!

Monday, May 25th, 2009

It seems like lots of friends and co-workers are having babies these days.

Two girlfriends of mine have babies who are less than a year old.

Being a fan of Lotta Jansdotter’s book Simple Sewing,

I recently purchased another of her books: Simple Sewing For Baby.

taggie4

So far I’m loving it!

It’s filled with projects that are practical and fun.

Some of the more whimsical items may not match your personal esthetic,

but they could be easily modified to “make them your own”.

The first project I tried from the book was the Tag Blankie.

And I’m so happy with how they turned out!

taggie1

It was fun to choose fabric and then ribbons to match.

taggie2

The sewing was very easy.

taggie51

This one is for little Robyn.

taggie6

I double stitched the edges to make sure those tags stay on.

taggie7

And this one is for little Mylo.

I hope he likes robots (as much as I do)!

I washed both blankies together on gentle with woolite, tossed them in the dryer and they both came out looking great! This is a wonderful project because these sew up very quickly (and isn’t it satisfying to start and finish a project in the same day?), and they make a lovely handmade gift for a friend, or your own little bundle of joy.  I’m also proud to say that I had ALL the supplies on hand to make these – no trip to the fabric shop was needed.  I’ve been saving scraps of ribbon in the hopes of finding a project to use them for and this worked perfectly.  I used satin-y ribbon scraps that I hadn’t washed before – and they came out of the washer/dryer just fine.

My next Lotta project will be the Soft Rattle toy.  Again, I’m going to only use materials that I have on hand.  I’ve already had a learning experience washing cotton velveteen to use for this project.  I was very nervous about how to go about washing/drying it, as I have very limited experience (ie: none) with this material.  But you know, sometimes ignorance is bliss.  I just stitched up the raw edges and threw it in the washer, then dryer, and to my delight – it came out looking better than when it went in.

I’ll let you know how those rattles turn out!

Experimented with a new material or technique?

Oh, Baby!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I have a dear friend who’s expecting her first baby this spring.

So I asked my friend Ginny if she’d make something special for me to give as a gift.

Isn’t this bootie, bib and blanket set beautiful?

The tiny booties are adorable.

What’s New

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Earlier this week Josh and I went over to Evolution, where my business cards are being printed. We did a press check on the color for the back of the cards. I had to give the okay on the color, and I got to take one of the sheets home with me. The card stock is an oatmeal color that has tiny threads in it. This will be the back of the cards, soon we’ll do a check on the fronts.

Yay – I can’t wait to see them finished!

If you saw my last post, I’ve been having some problems with uploading photos to my blog. For the last couple days I haven’t been able to upload them at all. Josh and I have gotten around this by using a program called Ecto. Ecto works with Flickr to not only make photo uploading easier, it also decreases the amount of time it takes to publish the entire blog post. Another problem I was having was that, on occasion I would upload my photos, type up all my text and get everything spaced and arranged the way I wanted it – only to discover that I wanted to include one more photo. If I then added any additional photos – all of the spacing in the blog post I was working on would be undone. Everything that I had typed would be mashed together in one big paragraph and I’d have to redo all the spacing. (Blog posting takes enough time as it is without that kind of hassle!) Ecto lets you create your entire blog post independently of Blogger. I can click and drag photos and play with the layout to my heart’s content and then publish. Adding photos doesn’t effect your text. Whew! I think this is going to work out much, much better!

Since I couldn’t do any blog posting myself, I got to catch up on a bit of blog reading.

I was over at Mrs. Kwitty’s blog and saw that she’s been doing some spring cleaning, which inspired me to do some, too.

Mrs. Kwitty has been reorganizing her rick-rack collection (which is quite impressive, I must say!) and by coincidence, my own rick-rack has outgrown the glass jar I’ve been keeping it in.

Weeks (or maybe months?) ago I thrifted a long wooden box that was filled with projector slide boxes. Yesterday I decided that it would be perfect for keeping my rick-rack in. I lined the bottom with pretty paper and here it is:

Much better!

(Josh is using the slide boxes to keep Legos in.)

Thanks for the organization motivation, Mrs. Kwitty! : )

Pooh what have you gotten yourself into?

Oh, this baby blanket is very warm and snuggly soft!

This lovely set is for friends of ours who have their first baby on the way.

When I saw this blanket, matching booties and bib in Ginny’s Etsy shop,

I had to scoop them up!

They are so pretty and well made! Right now Ginny has some very cute bibs in her shop.

I’m especially fond of this one !

Cheers!
