Quite Possibly…

…the ugliest doll ever.

I am currently up to my ears in lambie goodness:

I have little quilts stacked on my work table, ready for pinning…

Little pillowcases ready to be embroidered…

And an adorable little surprise that I’m saving for the final lamb reveal.
(I would loooove to show it to you – but I’ve decided to keep it a secret. Although, I’m getting photos as I work so that I can write up a little tutorial to share with you!)

I’ve been very busy, but I don’t have any progress pictures to share today.

So I thought I’d share a tiny bit of my studio with you.

Many, many years ago, when I was a girl, we would occasionally receive boxes of hand-me-downs from my aunt, filled with things that my two older girl cousins had outgrown. My cousins lived at least a few hours away from us (…how distant! how exotic!…) and receiving these boxes of goodies was like Christmas in July!

Ah, the books with tattered covers… the little purses… the colorful plastic mugs from amusement parks I’d never been to.

Even though they were all used and my cousins had tired of them,
for me it was like treasure. Especially since I didn’t have many little purses, and my parents didn’t take us to amusement parks… and I loved to read.

This is a little troll “doll” that was rolling around in one of those hand-me-down boxes. And I still have her. I have never named her, but I have loved her since the day I found her – because she’s ugly. But to me she’s so ugly that I’ve been unable to part with her. I keep her, along with my other little found goodies, on a small shelf near my work table in my studio.

She is about 1 1/2″ tall and hollow inside.
See that little scraggly bit of hair on her head?
Can you guess how many times I have combed and braided that hair?

She is grungy.
Alot of that dirt won’t come off and I’m afraid to wash her too vigorously,
worried that the paint might wash away, too.

But I am hopelessly enamored with her,
and find the dirt behind her ears charming and endearing.

After all these years.

I can’t wait for the lambie surprise.! And yes, that’s an ugly little doll. I understand why you love her though. I used to get my sister’s hand-me-downs. She’s 6 years older than I am, so I always thought it was cool to have what she had. Not anymore. lol

I don’t blame you for holding onto her! You and she have a great history together. I know exactly what you mean about the box of hand-me-downs, etc., especially with those cousins living “far far” away. What a great story.

I don’t know why people clammer around for new ithings (well, I sorta do) when getting hand-me-downs is like Xmas on a Tuesday night in September. Love it!

Can’t wait to see the big reveal!

Oh, don’t keep us in suspense for long! Can’t wait to see what you have in store to share…

Yep, that troll doll is UGLY! But love is blind, right? I’ve kept similar things which I love, but my kids really don’t see past the ugliness. Wait until they’re grown. Then they’ll understand such attachments. ;o)

Aww! Childhood memories are the best! My cousin used to give us bags of clothing too. T-shirts with New Kids On The Block and other STRANGE TO US things. lol Children remember unique things. It’s great that you keep these things that are close to your heart close to your workspace also.

I love the story, but that certainly is a scary doll!

My sister and I used to get bags like that from our cool older neighbors. Oh how we loved those days!
